Dear Gordon

Today the Government broke its promises on fracking.

MPs voted to allow dangerous fracking in the areas that protect our drinking water, and overturned their ‘outright ban’ on fracking in protected areas such as National Parks.

And despite recent promises in Paris about a fossil free future, this week the Government are likely to open up whole new swathes of the country for fracking licenses, while clamping down on renewables.

But we still have the power to keep our communities safe. Find out here how to stop fracking where you live.

Thanks to many of us writing to our MPs, hundreds of them voted to stop this happening. This meant the Government was forced to abandon the worst of their plans, such as allowing fracking directly through drinking water aquifers (which provide around one third of our drinking water). But our drinking water is still at risk from fracking in the protected areas that surround and feed into these water sources.

The Government’s own draft report found that even an indirect exposure to water contaminated by fracking poses risks to human health.

They had tried to keep this report secret but were forced to publish it.

Clean drinking water is a precious resource and basic human right. It’s time to let people know how to keep their area safe.

Together we've kept Britain free from fracking for over four years.

If enough of us act now, we'll be able to keep each other, our drinking water, and our planet safe from fracking for good.

With hope,

Rose and the fracking team. (FOE)
