Chair/Coordinator Role Overview
The Chair/Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the local party. This position oversees party activities, ensures that decisions are carried out effectively, and supports other officers in fulfilling their responsibilities. The Chair/Coordinator also helps foster strong communication within the local party, organizing regular gatherings, events, and using appropriate communication channels.
Additionally, this role ensures the local party meets all legal and organizational requirements, working closely with other key officers like the Treasurer, Nominating Officer, and Data Handler. The Chair/Coordinator acts as the main point of contact with other local parties, regional bodies, and national Green Party staff (such as Field Organisers).
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate Meetings: Lead local party meetings or support others in doing so.
- Organize Member Gatherings: Ensure all member meetings are well-advertised, properly planned, and take place as scheduled. If your local party has a Membership Officer or Secretary, they may share this responsibility.
- Ensure Compliance: Make sure the local party adheres to all legal and constitutional requirements.
- Recruit a Second Treasurer Officer: Responsible for appointing a second Treasurer Officer within 28 days of a vacancy and notifying the Electoral Commission within that timeframe.
- Liaise with Regional/National Party: Serve as the primary point of contact between the local and regional/national Green Party.
- Public Point of Contact: Act as the main public contact (this can be delegated to another individual if needed).
- Support Members and Committees: Help the committee and other members develop in their roles and take on key responsibilities.
- Keep the Party on Track: Ensure agreed-upon plans, such as election campaigns or events, are executed—not by doing everything yourself, but by ensuring that others follow through.
